I have always wanted to learn music. I have a terrible voice and never aspired to sing but I always wanted to learn a musical instrument. There is something about music which touches everyone.

When I was a teenager I tried to learn the guitar although I don’t think I worked on it for more than a month. My family was never supportive of music or any other extra-curricular activities. All they wanted me to do as a kid was to study hard and get good grades. When I went to college and was on my own I brought myself a guitar and started going to lessons but looking back I think it was mostly to appear cool than actually out of interest.

After that, I never gave music a try. After moving to the U.S. I did think of giving guitar another try but then decided to try something small thinking it will be easier to learn. So, I ended up buying the most reviewed Ukelele from Amazon. That thing is still sitting in my closet in its case without being played even one single day.

Recently, I got to know that my work provided reimbursement of a certain percentage for any expense done for personal well being and growth. I did not want to miss out on this one and started looking into picking up a new skill. I am not sure how I thought of learning saxophone. I listened to jazz music first time after coming to the U.S. while lingering around some of the pubs of the downtown area near my university. It was mesmerizing and I started listening to it more. I think subconsciously I picked to learn saxophone because I want to play jazz music one day. I know this a long path but I think one day I will be able to do it.

It has been around two and a half months I have been practicing the saxophone and taking weekly lessons and I enjoy it a lot. Every day I look forward to my practice session and once I pick the horn I don’t feel like putting it down and when I do it is because my jaws are too tired. I am very surprised by how much I am enjoying it and practicing it regularly. I never did this with guitar or ukelele in past. I think all of us can learn music it is just about finding our own path.
